The Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Joel Ssenyonyi, has warned the government against what he described as the continued siege of the home of Robert Kyagulanyi, the president of the National Unity Platform (NUP).
Speaking to the media, Ssenyonyi called on security agencies to immediately vacate Kyagulanyi’s residence, arguing that the deployment has no legal justification.
“His home is not a crime scene. Security should vacate it,” Ssenyonyi said.
He added that if authorities have any concerns or allegations against Kyagulanyi, they should pursue them through lawful means rather than surrounding his home.
Ssenyonyi emphasized the need for security agencies to operate within the law and respect the rights of citizens.
The opposition leader’s remarks come amid reports of heightened security presence around Kyagulanyi’s residence, a development that has drawn criticism from some opposition figures.
Kyagulanyi, a former presidential candidate and leading opposition figure, has previously raised concerns about security deployments around his home, which he says restrict his movement and those of his family members.
Government and security officials had not commented on Ssenyonyi’s remarks by the time of publication.
